When Anthony Watson and Benoît Rauzy settled in Vallabrègues, in the south of France, they immediately fell in love with the village’s basket weaving tradition. Soon they released their own collections. Until September, those summering in Provence can see Watson and Rauzy’s wicker and rattan creations up close at La Maison Vime, the duo’s new boutique located in a 19th-century house they spent more than a year to renovate. Crockery, candles and books are on display, as well as a line of tablecloths with the artist Marie Victoire de Bascher made using an old printing technique. A range of pictorial notebooks designed in collaboration with artists Wayne Pate and Emmanuel Pierre will also be available. An antiques section, filled with paintings, furniture, and ceramics, is another draw for nostalgics.

Orior unveils its New York flagship in Soho

Orior, the Northern Irish furniture and accessories brand founded by Rosie and Brian McGuigan in 1979, has moved into a sprawling new showroom in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. The group’s distinctly playful take on form and materiality is well displayed in the architecture of the 4,500 square foot space, where custom stone tiles in the entryway lead to vignettes framed by wrapped arches of oak and sculptural lighting by Bocci. In addition to the spring collection and classics from Orior – the Mara credenza in Irish green marble and the tasselled Atlanta sofa are favorites – the showroom showcases items from the manufacturer’s homeware series, Objects, as well as sets from fashion designer Katie Ann McGuigan, the owners’ daughter.

Make Hauser & Wirth opens salon in Southampton

From tomorrow, July 2, until September 10, tourists and residents of Southampton will have the opportunity to explore Manufacturing and material, the first U.S. presentation of Make Hauser & Wirth, an initiative created in 2018 to showcase leading contemporary craftsmanship. The exhibition, located at 50 Hampton Road, near Hauser and Wirth’s usual gallery on Main Street, will feature talents such as ceramicist and glass artist Rosa Nguyen, cabinetmaker Alexander deVol, metal maestro Helen Carnac and others. The clay artist Florian Gadsby, another artist in the exhibition, will be in residence in the space from August 1 to 15, offering aesthetes the opportunity to scrutinize the manufacturing process.

Business Updates

Modsy Roller Shutter Electronic Design Services

Modsy, the electronics design platform founded by Shanna Tellerman in 2015, has ceased design operations as part of a pivot to reposition itself as a SaaS provider, reports TechCrunch. Sources said a corporate acquisition was in the works, but the deal ultimately fell through, leading to job cuts across the majority of the company and the halting of existing projects. A “Coming Soon” section of Modsy’s website now offers early access to Modsy Pro, the company’s proprietary design software comprised of room scanning technology and AI-powered rendering tools.
