High temperatures can lead to costly car repairs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – High temperatures can even be extremely costly for your car. However, there are steps you can take today to save you a lot of money.

“Lots of overheating issues, lots of air conditioning issues, lots of battery issues. That pretty much sums it up, because heat is just as bad for cars as cold air,” said John Parker, managing director from Complete Automotive.

Parker says it can really cost you in the long run.

“It’s cheap enough to do an inspection, compared to a repair. Sometimes it gets outrageous,” Parker said.

AAA is already responding to an increase in calls.

“Once you lose a battery, you obviously have to replace it. And that can result in more than money, just wasted time. Especially if you are traveling. Going on vacation with his family. A battery is the last thing you want to deal with. said Jed Bowles, AAA fleet manager.

Bowles says outside temperatures close to 100 degrees, combined with temperatures of 220 degrees under your hood, can kill your battery within hours. Especially if they are not properly verified.

“If it’s a buildup of a green stuff or a blue stuff, it’s actually battery corrosion and it would be a very good idea to clean it. And possibly consider test or change the battery,” Bowles said.

It is best to do these checks as soon as possible.

The National Weather Service also has a reminder for people during the heat this week. The interior of your car heats up very quickly, even in the shade. It is therefore extremely important not to leave your children, pets or the elderly in a hot car.
