SIBU: Auto repair can be a very promising industry given the increasing number of vehicles on the road every year, observes Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

According to him, the majority of Malaysians can afford to own cars.

“It is common for a family to have several cars. Thus, auto repair can be considered as a promising industry.

“But we also have to realize that if our craft is not as good as others and our attitude is not sincere, we will eventually lose the trust and support of our customers.

“I want to encourage industry players to keep abreast of the latest information and also explore relevant knowledge and technology,” he said in his remarks for Sibu’s pre-Chinese New Year gathering. Automobile Repairers Association (Sara) in a hotel. here on Saturday evening, which also served as the installation ceremony of the association’s executive committee (exco) for the 2020-2021 term.

The text of Tiong’s speech, which was in Mandarin, was read by his representative, Councilor Joshua Ting.

Councilor Teo Nging Poh, who was re-elected Sara President, led his exco at the swearing-in ceremony – attended by Pelawan Assemblyman David Wong, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman ) Clarence Ting and Joshua.

Moreover, Tiong said that against the backdrop of the development of the Internet, the automobile industry has evolved “much faster and more accurately.”

He said the trend should be for continued progress, with many automotive engines “becoming more sophisticated than before”.

So, he said those in the industry should keep pace.

In this regard, he observed that many companies have continuously improved the user experience, and also have strong technical strength in the development and use of “Big Data”.

“Therefore, our local auto repair industry needs to be aligned on this aspect.

“If you have certain capabilities, you can consider encouraging employees to train in other countries, to acquire the latest professional knowledge, or to invest in the latest instruments or maintenance equipment, so that car manufacturers can be more competitive in this market, (and) provide better auto repair services.

“Only by continuously improving services will the long-term policy of attracting customers be.

“What is most important is ‘honesty’. When the customer entrusts you with a car, it is necessary to provide the best repair services.

“The customer’s road safety is the first principle to earn their trust,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tiong called on Sara to always remember to give back to the community, through running wellness activities.

Later in the event, study incentives were also presented to the children of Sara members who excelled in the public examinations last year, as well as those who performed well in their higher education.

Four charities have also received contributions from Sara – namely the Sibu Kidney Foundation, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia Sibu Chapter, the Association for Children with Special Needs Sibu and the Sibu Methodist Children’s Home.
